Navigating Triggers
Your nervous system is your first line of defense, sensing threats, scanning for information, and sending signals all throughout your body. The nervous system also holds a lot of past information and trauma, storing it as physical tension, emotional reactivity, and ingrained survival responses. This may lead to hyper-vigilance, strained relationships, anxiety, and sleep disturbances because the energy can become "stuck" in the body's protective mechanisms instead of being fully processed out as a memory. In fact, your nervous system remembers frequencies of events faster than you do, and it is always trying to protect you. However, the nervous system (via the amygdala) may be trying to protect you even when you don't truly need protection. Past traumas may make your system over-sensitive, and this puts the nervous system into survival mode. The goal is to come out of this and put peace at the core.

This leads to feeling triggered and challenged. Triggers happen when the current situation, person, or event evokes an emotional response, usually associated with negative feelings such as anger, fear, sadness, panic, or anxiety. There may be hurt or pain at the core of the wound, and a feeling of wanting to 'lash out' may rise, as it often feels as though someone has done something to you. Fight, flight, fawn, or freeze may be involved, where the amygdala may perceive a threat where there isn't one. This activation happens with lightening speed, cascading off a domino effect in the chakras and response time. This is because when a potential threat is perceived, the amygdala acts as your alarm system sending distress signals to the hypothalamus and throughout your body in preparation for fight-or-flight. Your nervous system may rev up and emotions may run high. In this space, one is not thinking clearly but it can feel as though they are. In fact, the response is coming from reactive impulses more than well-thought out understandings and clarity.

This being said, the Navigating Triggers class aims to discuss reaction times, how to become more aware of emotional responses, ways to clear trapped energy from the chakras, discovering which energy points are blocked, how to slow down long enough to respond intelligently, how to overcome impulsivity, and understanding the origin point of the triggers coming up so as not to bleed these emotions over onto others. We all carry wounds from our past. Triggers happen, this is a fact. Triggers are a part of life, not separate from it. So, this class aims to get you back in touch with your true power and work with the triggers coming up, work with the emotions rising, and respond more intelligently within your power, cultivating wisdom alongside it.
